Recently I visited coccadotts Cake Shop in Albany, New York; famous for winning Cup Cake Wars in 2013. coccadotts is a small bakery with locations in Myrtle Beach, SC, Fort Lauderdale, FL and of course Albany, NY. Impressively coccadotts, the winner of Cup Cake Wars in 2013 was bound to be amazing, so the expectations were pretty high.
coccadotts has over 30 flavors of cupcakes on any given day which makes it nearly impossible to choose from, in addition to their amazing cupcakes they have many assorted baked goods and signature cake flavors.
When I walked into coccadotts it smelled heavenly and had the cutest Christmas decorations up, their Christmas Tree and wreaths got me into a very festive mood which just inspired me to buy more cupcakes. As soon as I walked in my eyes were drawn to the display case filled with so many colorful neat cupcakes, it might have quite literally been the holy grail of cupcakes. coccadotts boasts so many uniquely flavored cupcakes that are neatly and beautifully decorated. The display case and the beautiful cupcakes inside were so satisfying to look at, but it was so hard to choose just six, they all looked so good!
coccadotts also had other baked goods like signature cakes, pies, cookies, cake pops and much more, which made it even harder to not purchase the whole store. I loved the ambiance in the bakery, all of the menu boards were chalk boards and around them were decorated so festively it felt very homey and warm. Everything in the bakery was on theme and color coordinated so it wasn’t very overwhelming to the eyes, I appreciated the organization of the store, it made making the impossible decision of which cupcakes to get a stress free experience.
My friends and I basically bought 25% of the store, they got two pies, a Banana Creme pie (pictured below) and a Chocolate Overload pie and several cupcakes. After crippling indecisiveness on my part I finally settled on getting, an Apple Cheesecake Cupcake, a Snickerdoodle Cupcake, a Cookie Dough Cupcake (called tough cookie), a Cannoli Cupcake, a Maple Cupcake and a German Chocolate Cupcake. Each cupcake was decorated so neatly and the packaging was super cute with the sticker on the top. I appreciated that they had tiny holders for one cupcake so the customer isn’t forced to get more than they want.
If I had to rate my most to least favorite of the cupcakes I got my first would be the snickerdoodle cupcake, then the cookie dough then the apple cheesecake cupcake then the cannoli cupcake , the German chocolate and finally the maple cupcake (All pictured below). The snickerdoodle cupcake was one of the best cupcakes I have ever had in my life, the frosting was covered in sugar and topped with a soft piece of a snickerdoodle cookie. Everything about that cupcake was heavenly. The cupcake frosting tasted perfectly like cinnamon and wasn’t overbearing, the cake was very moist and super yummy. If i am to recommend anything from Cocca Dotts it is the snickerdoodle cupcake.
The Cookie Dough cupcake was also very good, it was a bit overly sweet however that is to be expected with a Cookie Dough cupcake. The frosting was very good and tasted like a cookie and was topped with chocolate syrup and a bit of cookie dough which was Delicious. The cupcake was filled with chocolate sauce, it was so sweet I had to take a break and come back to it, but it was one of the best tasting cupcakes i’ve had.
The Apple Cheesecake cupcake was honestly just a tiny cheesecake topped with apples, I feeling it shouldn’t be labeled as a cupcake but it was still very good. I wasn’t expecting an actual cheesecake when I tasted it but it was a good mini cheesecake.
The Cannoli Cupcake was good, however the Cannoli it was topped with wasn’t the best cannoli ever, I liked the cake in the Cannoli Cupcake more than anything else. The German Chocolate Cupcake was very rich and moist, it was a bit of a Chocolate Overload, the frosting had two types of rich chocolate which i didn’t really like but the cake was very good. Lastly the Maple Cupcake was entirely too strong it was like drinking super strong Maple Syrup, it was entirely too sweet for me.
Overall, coccadotts Cake Shop is a great bakery, the wide range of signature flavors and assorted baked goods means they have something for everyone; they even have a Butter Beer cupcake for the Harry Potter fans out there! I completely recommend this bakery, especially the Snickerdoodle cupcake, you definitely wont regret trying it.
